University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) is a public research university located in Santa Barbara, California. The UCSB Women's Basketball team is one of the many sports programs offered by the university. They compete in the Big West Conference and have been playing since the 1969-1970 season.

History

The UCSB Women's Basketball team was established in the 1969-1970 season. The team played in the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) until 1982 when they joined the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In 1986, the team qualified for the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament for the first time.

Throughout the years, the team has experienced both highs and lows. In the 1992-1993 season, the team won the Big West Conference Tournament and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. They advanced to the West Regional final but were eliminated by Ohio State.

In the 2003-2004 season, the UCSB Women's Basketball team won the Big West Conference Championship and entered the NCAA Tournament as a 16th seed. They upset the 1st seeded University of Houston in the first round but were eliminated by the University of Connecticut in the second round.
